Three district students named to all-state choir
Three Denton ISD students earned spots on the 2016 Texas Music Educators Association’s All-State Choir, with two of the students earning the top spot possible.
Guyer High School junior Kate Gillman earned first chair alto 2 honors, and her senior Wildcat classmate Kylie Jensen earned fourth chair honors in the same category. Both students earned spots on the TMEA All-State Choir for consecutive years – this is Kate’s third straight year and Kylie’s second straight year to make the all-state choir. Kate and Kylie are instructed by Stephen Evans, Guyer’s choir director, and Rebecca Ginez, associate choir director.
Joining the Guyer students in their selections was Denton High School junior Courtney Lawson, who earned first chair soprano 2 honors. This is Courtney’s third consecutive year to make the TMEA All-State Choir. Courtney is instructed by Mark Baker, Denton’s choir director, and Nicholas Vance, associate choir director.
As a result of their selections, all three students will perform with the state’s other top-ranked choral singers at the 2016 TMEA State Convention in San Antonio in February.
