Guyer places fourth at UIL One-Act Play State Meet
Guyer High School’s theatre program placed fourth in the 6A competition at the University Interscholastic League One-Act Play State Meet, its fourth time at the top competition in the past five years, with two students earning individual honors.
The school’s theatre students performed “Amadeus” at the state meet, the same play that earned the Wildcats a second-place finish in 2009 in 4A, to earn fourth-place honors in 6A, the UIL’s largest classification. Guyer’s participation this year also marks the fifth time in the last seven years that the school has competed in the UIL One-Act Play State Meet.
In addition to this year and its 2009 runner-up finish, the Wildcats also previously placed second at state in 2013 in 4A, performing “The Lion in Winter,” and third at state in 2012 in 5A, performing “Les Liaisons Dangereuses.” In 2014, the school advanced to the 4A competition, performing “Hamlet.”
Two students were honored this year for their performances in the 2016 state meet, with John Fredrickson being named to the UIL 6A All-Star Cast and Malana Wilson being named to the Honorable Mention All-State Cast. Both John and Malana will return to Guyer’s theatre program and one-act play cast next school year as seniors.
To celebrate their state accolades, the Wildcats will perform an encore presentation of “Amadeus” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the Guyer auditorium, located at 7501 Teasley Lane in Denton.
