Denton High, Guyer High compete in state UIL Academic meet
Denton and Guyer High schools recently represented Denton ISD at the annual 4-A University Interscholastic League state academic meet at the University of Texas at Austin this past week, with three students being named state champions in their respective events.

Guyer High’s One-Act Play, Hamlet, also made it to state UIL competition. The cast included the following students:
The state honorees include:
- William Root – first place – state champion in literary criticism; second place in number sense, and competed in computer science
- George Roberson – second place in headline writing and competed in news writing
- Emily Fu – fourth place in computer science
- Rebecca Fu – competed in editorial writing
- Ana Mitchell, Omar Akram, Emily Fu, Rebecca Fu – competed in the spelling and vocabulary team
Guyer High
- Andrew Hansen – poetry – state champion
- Tanille Limb – prose – state champion
- Tiffany Wang – persuasive speaking - third place
- Edie Scott –competed in headline writing
- Melissa Petrie – All State – Outstanding Technician
