    Reeves TOY
    Anita Reeves, physical education teacher at Houston Elementary, has been named Jostens Elementary Teacher of the Year.

      

    Mrs. Reeves has been a physical education teacher at Houston Elementary School since 2001 and prior to that was a fifth-grade teacher at that school for 17 years. She’s been with the district since 1978 and also taught at Jefferson Davis Elementary and Stonewall Jackson Elementary.

     

    She has been the chair and president for the Teacher Communications Committee and was a founding member of TCC. She’s been a student teacher mentor/supervisor for 20 years and has taught the Newspaper in Education Workshop for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Denton Record-Chronicle. 

     

    She tutors and mentors low-performing students. Mrs. Reeves is a cancer survivor ambassador and is willing to share her life experiences as a survivor to others battling cancer. She received her master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University and her bachelor’s degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College.

     

    She is the mother of three Denton ISD employees: Rod Reeves, facilities coordinator; Vernon Reeves, principal at Ryan High, and Russell Reeves, assistant athletic director.

     

    Her philosophy: “It is my strong desire and lifelong goal to help students succeed and become more than they thought possible.”
