Reading Recovery is a short term early literacy intervention designed for first graders having difficulty learning to read and write. As part of a comprehensive literacy program that begins with good classroom instruction, Reading Recovery is an important component of a total school plan to prevent reading failure.
Reading Recovery provides systematic, intensive, individualized instruction from a teacher who has been specially trained in effective early literacy instruction and early intervention. The supplemental 30-minute daily lessons typically range from 12 to 20 weeks. This instruction enables most students to make faster than average progress, catch up with their peers and continue their literacy learning with independence in the regular classroom.
