What are Literacy Groups?
A literacy group is a small group of students, usually not more than five or six, who have been identified as needing extra literacy support in addition to their classroom instruction.
Literacy group time provides for small group literacy instruction to help students accelerate quickly. The time allows for children to receive a “double-dip” of literacy instruction. In literacy groups, the students focus on reading at their instructional level, word work with spelling patterns and word building, shared reading for fluency and reading strategy instruction and writing opportunities.
At any time a student's assessement shows that he/she is on-level or progressing in grade-level expectations, then he/she may exit from the program.
