Director of Career & Technical Education
The Board of Trustees approved the superintendent’s recommendation to name Carla Ruge the Director of Career and Technical Education for the district in November 2014. She previously served the district as the Dean of the LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex, where she had worked since 2006. During eight of those years, Mrs. Ruge has served as Dean or Assistant Dean/Assistant Director.
“Mrs. Ruge has been a blessing to the Denton ATC program. Her enthusiasm and genuine caring nature make her a great asset to our community – a place she truly calls home,” said Dr. Jamie Wilson, superintendent.
She began her teaching career in 1999 as a business instructor at Denton High School. In 2005, she was promoted to become the district’s Career and Technical Education Specialist, where she served until 2006.
During her time as the Director of the CTE Dept, Mrs. Ruge has overseen a growth in career and technical education across the district with more students enrolling in CTE programs overall (27 percent of the district’s 29,000 students), enrolling in classes at the ATC (2200) and participating in the school’s robotics, dual credit and career summer camp for elementary students.
Under her leadership, the ATC has partnered with local businesses for Denton ISD annual Career Fair and college Fair, Job Fair and variety of activities throughout the year and has grown to a district wide iniative. She continues to increase the number of CTE students completing licensure or certification programs each year with a total of 1323 last year for the 17-18 school year.
Mrs. Ruge also taught information technology courses at North Central Texas College as an adjunct professor for 13 years to keep her instructional and technology classroom management skills up to standard.
Mrs. Ruge earned her bachelor’s of business administration degree from Hawaii Pacific University in 1997 and her master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Educational Technology in 2003.
