• Quick Flu-Related Facts and Information
    • Denton ISD RNs are conducting surveillance on flu and flu –like illness and reporting to the Denton County Health Department each week. Our overall school attendance rate is normal for this time of year. Generally a campus may have anincrease in absenteeism for 4-5 days, and then it returns to normal.
    • Most of the students and staff that have flu-like symptoms are experiencing a mild – moderate disease, and can usually be back to school within 4-5 days. Remember, a student must be fever-free without the use of fever reducing medication (Tylenol, Motrin, etc.) for 24 hours before returning to school.
    • Parents can also sign up at Texasflu.org to get updates as they come out 
    • The best thing you can do to stay healthy is follow basic flu prevention guidelines:
      • get a flu vaccine – it is not too late!
      • wash your hands often and keep your hands away from your face
      • cough/sneeze into your elbow
      • stay well-hydrated (water, not soft drinks!)
      • eat healthy foods to keep your immunity up
      • get plenty of rest and sleep
      • And if you do have symptoms, stay home until the symptoms are gone without the use of medication
