• Outlook - Importing Mailbox

    When you want to migrate Outlook messages, contacts, calendar items, tasks, and notes from one computer to another or restore a backup of your Outlook data, the Import and Export Wizard is the easiest way to complete the task. (Folder properties such as permissions and views were not preserved when you exported your mailbox and will have to be recreated once your import has finished.)
    • The following steps will walk you through how to import your email back into your mailbox from your backup file.
    • Open Outlook from the desktop client

    • If you have your backup file open in the Navigation Pane you will need to right click over the Outlook Data File and click Close "Outlook Data File" before you proceed with the import

    • Click the File Tab

    • Click Open & Export

    • Click Import/Export
    • Select Import from another program or file
    • Click Next
    • Select Outlook Data File (.pst)

    • Click Next
    • Click the browse button and go to the location where you saved your backup .pst file
    • Click on your backup file and then click Open (You have three options to select from. (The default is Replace duplicates with items imported and that is what we used)
    • Click Next
    • In the Import Outlook Data File window there should be a check mark beside Include subfolders
    • Select Import items into the same folder in:  
    • Your email address will be showing as the location to import the file to  
    • Click Finish
    • A window will pop up as it begins the importing process and you can see what it currently is importing
    • After the import finishes you should be able to locate items that were in the file at the time of the backup.
