Art 1 and PreAP Art 1

Art 1 is a class which provides an overall view: the elements and principles of design, along with art history, criticism, and aesthetics. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of mediums and techniques ranging from pencil drawing to ceramic clay in this year long class.

With the recommendation of their Middle School Art Teacher, an incoming freshman may choose Pre-AP Art 1 instead of Art 1. Pre-AP Art 1 presumes the student has extended interest in Art and expects to take additional Art classes within the next few years. It is the goal of Pre-AP Art 1 to encourage as many students as possible to take AP Studio Art in their junior and senior years of high school for college credits.
