Mrs. Jennifer Carpenter
My name is Jennifer and I am the school nurse at McNair Elementary. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with Honors in May 2011. Initially I was an ICU nurse for several years and received training at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Tx. We moved to Denton several years ago where I worked at Denton Regional Hospital and I became a school nurse in 2015. I am a native Texan and proud to call Texas my home. My husband and I were highschool sweethearts and have been married for almost 20 years. We have two amazing children that attend Denton schools. I love being around children and love being a school nurse. I became a nurse because I am passionate about helping others. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) this school year.
If your child has seizures, asthma or any allergies requiring possible epinephrine injection then please fill out and have your doctor sign an action plan. The action plans can be found under the appropriate tab on my home page. If your child needs to have medicine at school for asthma, ADHD, seasonal allergies, headaches, indigestion, etc, a medication administration form must be signed and can also be found on the appropriate tab on my home page. For ANY over the counter medicine (even cough drops), the medication form MUST be signed by a DOCTOR....this is a STATE law and Denton ISD policy. ALL medicines must be in original container/packaging.
I do not call the parent(s) everytime a child comes to see me. Please let me know if you would like to know everytime your child visits the clinic. Also, I have access to community resources so please let me know if there is anything you need help with whether it's clothing, medicine, transportation, doctor visits, glasses, dental work, etc and I will do my best to find help for you and your family. Per state law, I will also conduct hearing, vision and acanthosis nigricans screenings on all kindergarteners, 1st, 3rd and 5th graders and scoliosis screenings on 5th grade girls. A Growth and Development class will be given to all 4th and 5th graders which includes discussion on puberty, hygiene and the mentrual cycle. Please feel free to contact me for any questions you may have.
