You left the United States and traveled 19 hours by air, 3 hours by
train, and three hours by long boat to reach
Taman Negara. You intend to stay 4 days in the Park, hiking, shooting
the rapids, fishing and observing the wild life. You would really
like to see a tiger, but realize you will be lucky to see a mouse deer
or wild pig at the current headquarters. To get to the interior to
see the big game involves a 9 day hike with a required guide. Each
day you will hike 8-10 hours in 85 F heat with 90% humidity.
You will have to bring all your food and sleeping gear, plus drink water
you treat with iodine tablets from the muddy streams you cross. There
are many leeches that are in the wet ground and attack the unwary hiker.
If a road to the interior is built, it would be easier to get where
the animals live. You would be willing to pay more to stay deeper
in the jungle.
