    Dear Cross Oaks Families,

The afternoon of August 23rd, 2018, all families in the Braswell Zone received an email from Jeff Russell, our area superintendent, communicating new drop-off procedures going into effect at all district elementary campuses this Monday, August 27th. As Mr. Russell shared, these changes are taking place to increase the safety and security of our campuses to benefit students and staff. The purpose of this letter is to clarify for our parents the specific changes that will be occurring at Cross Oaks Elementary as part of these new procedures.

Beginning on Monday, Cross Oaks parents will no longer have the option of walking students to their classrooms in the mornings before school. Parents will also no longer enter the cafeteria or sign in through the office to eat breakfast with their children before school. However, parents will always be welcome at Cross Oaks in the morning and during the school day for both volunteer opportunities and as lunch visitors. While our daytime volunteer systems for parents remain the same, we are also offering new opportunities for volunteering in the morning from 7:10 am to 7:40 am. We have several important morning responsibilities that we could use help with. If you are interested, please complete the form at this link to become a VIP Volunteer: https://goo.gl/forms/u4MBwW5R1RL654cs1. Please note that all campus volunteers are required to complete a district background check.

We encourage parents to review our frequently asked questions and arrival system maps attached to this message, which describe these changes in much greater detail. Parents of pre-k and PPCD students can expect additional communication soon detailing specific systems that will apply to this grade level.

Finally, I invite all of our students, staff, and parents to wear red, white, and blue on the 27th to celebrate Student Independence Day at Cross Oaks! We are doing this to support and praise our students who may be walking to their classroom without their parents for the first time. Here at Cross Oaks, we are growing leaders, and for many of our children, this is their first step in that journey.

Although these new procedures are identical to the morning procedures that were in place during the 2017-2018 school year, I understand that these changes will be difficult for some of our students and families. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to contact me personally at (972) 347-7100 or at mpreston@dentonisd.org.

    With Cross Oaks pride,

    Matt Preston, Principal
