Brief Bio (click here for full bio):I have been teaching math at the Ryan campus since 1993 and teaching AP Calculus since 1998. I have taught three levels of Algebra 1, Geometry, and multiple levels of Algebra 2 and Precalculus as well as AP Physics and PSAT prep courses. In 1998 I also took over the UIL Mathematics, Number Sense and Calculator teams. We have had a few individual qualifiers for the state meet and several individidual and team district titles. I also coached girls soccer as Coach Malone's assistant from 1993 until the Regional Semi-finals in 2009. Beginning in 2005 I began reading AP Calculus tests for ETS/College Board. In addition to reading AP tests, they have given me the opportunity to serve in several leadership roles since 2010. In 2014 I took over UIL Coordinator duties from the very capable hands of Karen Guenther. In 2017, I handed the coordinator reins over to Shannon Flanagan's also capable hands. In the spring of 2016 I was hired as consultant by the CollegeBoard to train current and future AP/preAP teachers. Since 2017 I have been fortunate to teach AP Summer Institutes for the University of Notre Dame, Region XVI Service Center, Southern Methodist University, the University of North Texas, the University of Texas-San Antonio, the San Gabriel (California) school district, the Metropolitan State University at Denver, and the University of Alabama. I've also been given the opportunities to work with teachers in Austin, Grand Junction, Denver, Indianapolis, Birmingham, and Boston. Along the way I've also been able to lend a hand at editing and textbook evaluation for Cengage, McGraw-Hill, and Barron's.
I grew up in Northville, a suburb outside of Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State in 1993. My sister is still in Michigan with her family, but my father and brother are in Tucson and San Diego respectively with their families (my mom passed away in 1990). I still play soccer and enjoy a home in Denton with my wife (who teaches AP Biology and coaches Cross Country and Girls Track at Ryan), a cat, an Aussie Shephard, and some ducks & chickens. In February of 2008 we were blessed with a son, Philip. He was joined by a baby sister, Kara, in January of 2016. They're among the world's happiest kids. My main hobbies are reading, video games, gadgets and sharing all of those with Philip and soon Kara.
