Enrollment Criteria

In order for students to be enrolled in the Denton ISD Virtual Academy, they must meet all of the following enrollment criteria.
Student must:
- Demonstrate grade-level proficiency from the preceding school year.
- K-3rd Grade: Students must demonstrate grade-level proficiency in Math and Reading.
- 4th-8th Grade: Students must have passed the STAAR test in all tested subjects from the preceding school year.
- If the student was not previously enrolled in a school where the STAAR test was required, an assessment will be given prior to enrollment where the student must demonstrate grade-level proficiency.
- Have had a number of truant absences that is 10 percent or fewer out of all instructional days from the preceding school year.
- Have earned a grade of C or higher in the foundation curriculum courses taken the preceding school year.
- Maintain a grade C or higher in all classes for the current school year.
- Have had less than 10 truant absences over a six-month period of time from the current school year.
- Demonstrate grade-level proficiency from the preceding school year.
Enrollment Steps

Thank you for your interest in the Denton ISD Virtual Academy. You can reference the enrollment steps below. The application is open. However, most grade levels are at or near capacity. Should your student met enrollment criteria for a grade level that is at capacity, they will be placed on the waiting list. Please allow up to two weeks for the enrollment process to be completed. Step 1: Complete the Application
Virtual Academy Fall application
*New to Denton ISD will need to provide:
- 2021-2022 End of year report card
- Current report card from their last grading period
- Attendance history from the previous year if not included on the report card
- STAAR test results if enrolling in grades 4-8
- If your student receives additional services through programs such as Special Education or 504, a copy of the most recent service plan.
*Current Denton ISD students:
- If your student did not attend Denton ISD last school year, please provide:
- 2021-2022 End of the year report card.
- Attendance history from the previous year if not included on the report card.
- If your student attended a Denton ISD school last year and is currently attending Denton ISD.
- Please complete the application. If additional information will be required, you will be contacted by a Denton ISD staff member.

Step 2: Complete a grade level proficiency assessment, if needed.
If a student was not previously enrolled in Denton ISD and/or attended a school where the STAAR test was not required, a grade level proficiency assessment will be needed. As enrollment space becomes available for your student's grade level, you will be contacted by Virtual Academy staff to schedule these assessments.
For students that meet enrollment requirements, they will either be placed on the waiting list or will be contacted regarding steps 3 and 4 to complete the enrollment process.

Step 3: Complete enrollment with Denton ISD
If you are new to Denton ISD, online registration will open by the end of the day on April 14, 2022.
If you are a returning Denton ISD student, you will receive registration instructions in July 2022.
