• The
    and You and Your Children

The 82nd  Texas legislature is facing a large deficit this session and public education appears to be a significant target for budget cuts.  While public education's budget priorities should be addressed in relation to the overall state budget, public and parent input is an extremely important factor in determining public education's contribution to meeting state budget guidelines as well education spending priorities moving forward.

Make time to inform yourself of legislative and budget proposals that will have a direct effect on your child and on public education's resources as priorities are set, budgets are adopted, and legislation is enacted.
    Make time

Call and/or Write your state representatives and senators and ask questions about where the cuts are going to be and voice your opinions and concerns.  Proposals to release districts from the state requirement of a maximum of 22 students in K-4 classrooms as well as providing services for Gifted students and Dyslexic students are also on the table.
    Call and/or Write

You have a responsibility to keep yourself informed and to be heard.  At the end of the day cuts are going to be made to the budget.  Denton continues to grow and significant cuts across the board could hurt us more than other districts.  According to a report by the Texas Comptroller, Denton spends a relatively low amount of money per student with high results.  See a link to the report below.
