    Kinder Round-up!
Parents of children who will be five years old by Sept. 1 will have the opportunity to learn more about kindergarten during the round-up originally slated for  May 7 has been rescheduled to  9 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at all 20  Denton Independent School District elementary schools.

To enroll in kindergarten for the coming school year, a child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2009. Parents will be able to pre-register their students for the 2009-10 school year, but must bring:

    ·         the child’s birth certificate,

    ·          immunization record

    ·          and social security card.

    ·         Parents also are required to bring a proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

    ·          Participants will receive information on transportation, Extended School Day and the PTA, plus information about kindergarten and elementary school.

"The purpose of the kindergarten roundups is to provide an orientation for new students and their parents and to allow them to learn about the district’s kindergarten program,’’ said Dr. Roger Rutherford, assistant superintendent for academic programs.

For the past 10 years, DISD has provided all-day kindergarten. The kindergarten program in Denton ISD includes literacy activities, math concepts, science experiments and social interactions with other children in the classroom.

To learn more about the kindergarten program, parents are encouraged to attend kindergarten roundup or contact their neighborhood’s designated elementary school. Kindergarten roundup allows parents to receive information about the Denton school district and the individual campuses, school officials said.
