    Expectations for students and staff in common areas at Harpool Middle School

     

     

    ADVISORY

    Goal

    Advisory will be a quiet and focused environment where all students can work, study or read.

     

    Responsible Behavior
    • Have materials ready when bell rings.
    • Participate in pledges and moment of silence.
    • Listen to announcements.
    • Keep hands and feet to yourself.
    • Raise your hand for help.
    • Follow adult directions immediately.
    • Voice level – 0 D.E.A.R (Wednesday) 
    • Voice level – 1 for counselor presentations and independent work days (M, T, TH)
    • Voice level – TBD by Friday activity

     

    Consequences for Infractions
    • Give a nonverbal warning.
    • Give a quiet verbal warning.
    • Take a ticket.
    • Move students seat for the remainder of the day and contact parent.

      

    ASSEMBLY – PEP RALLY 

    Goal
    Appropriately participate by giving presenters the respect they deserve, following directives, and attentively interacting based upon the presentation.
     
    Responsible Behavior Entering/Exiting 
    • Walk (no running) directly to your designated area.
    • Keep your hands and feet to yourselves.
    • Keep moving.
    • Sit in your designated area.
    • Follow adult directions immediately.
    • Voice level - 2 During Assembly
    • Stay seated unless directed to stand.
    • Keep hands and feet to yourselves.
    • Voice level during presentation – 0
    • Voice level during pep rally as directed 0-4
     
    Consequences for Infractions
    When a student misbehaves, staff will calmly and consistently implement the mildest consequence that is appropriate. 
    Give a nonverbal warning.
    • Give a quiet verbal warning.
    • Have student stand next to teacher.
    • Remove student from assembly.


       

    CAFETERIA
    Goal
    The cafeteria will be a safe and orderly environment where everyone can be nourished and enjoy visiting with classmates. 
     
    Responsible Cafeteria Behavior
    • Follow hallway expectations on the way to the cafeteria ( Line up: Girls – right; Guys – left)
    • Have your ID up and visible as you approach the door monitor.
    • Immediately sit down or get into one of the lunch lines (5 people in serving line).
    • Get permission (raise your hand) before getting out of your seat.
    • Eat your food instead of throwing or playing with it.
    • Leave other people’s food alone.
    • Clean up after yourself.
    • Wait for an adult to dismiss you.
    • All food and drink stays in the cafeteria.
    • Place your trash in the cans instead of tossing it.
    • Treat other students, the custodians, the cafeteria personnel, the lunch room monitors with respect.
    • Voice level 2 
     
    Consequences for Infractions
    When a student does not show responsible behavior, staff will calmly and consistently implement the mildest consequence that is appropriate.
    • Nonverbal warnings.
    • Verbal warnings.
    • Move the student to a different table.
    • Have the student stand by the wall or go to the end of the line.
    • Have the student sit in the carrels.
    • Take a ticket.
    • Assign a consequence from the Code of Conduct.
    • Assign seats to the entire lunchroom.

     

    EMERGENCY DRILLS 
    Goal
    Drills will be conducted in a safe and orderly manner. Students will follow instructions to complete the drills successfully. All students will be accounted for. 
     
    Responsible Behavior
    • Students will maintain voice level 0 throughout the entire drill. This will allow important information and instructions to be given to the students and staff.
    • Follow staff directions immediately. If movement is required
    • Students will keep hands and feet to themselves
    • Walk in a single file line
    • Walk at a quick pace, there should be no large gaps If no movement is required
    • Students will sit or stand where the teacher direct them.
    • Students will keep their hands and feet to themselves.
    • Students will stay in appropriate position until directed to move by a teacher or administrator

    HALLWAYS BEFORE SCHOOL

    Goal

    A safe and orderly area for students to wait from 7:50-8:15am

     

    Responsible Behavior
    • Students will sit with their back against the wall or lockers.
    • Once seated, there is no moving or changing seats allowed.
    • Students will pull in legs and backpacks in order to keep a clear path.
    • Students should not sit in the doorways.
    • Lockers may not be used until 8:15.
    • All food and drink should be eaten before you enter the building or stored in your backpack until lunch.
    • Students may only enter teacher classrooms for help with work/ tutorials with teacher permission.
    • Students should refrain from knocking on lockers.
    • Follow adult directions immediately.
    • Voice level - 2
     
    Consequences
    When a student does not show responsible behavior, staff will calmly and consistently implement the mildest consequence that is appropriate.

    • Verbal warning

    • Verbal correction and ticket taken
    • Ticket taken and teacher assigned seat for one day
    • Ticket taken and teacher assigned seat until further notice (stated time or earned back)

      

     

     

    HALLWAYS DURING PASSING PERIODS
    Goal
    The hallway will be a safe and orderly environment where everyone can easily get where they need to go.

     

    Responsible Behavior
    • Walk (no running).
    • Keep your hands and feet to yourselves.
    • Keep moving.
    • No clumping.
    • Be on the correct hall – only on halls where you are coming or going to class period.
    • Stay on the right side of the main hallways and stairs.
    • Follow adult directions immediately.
    • Go to the restroom or water fountain as needed during the passing period.
    • Voice level – 2

    When a student misbehaves, staff will calmly and consistently implement the mildest consequence that is appropriate.

    • Give a nonverbal warning

    • Give a quiet, verbal warning
    • Direct student to wait against the wall for 30 seconds
    • Direct student to wait against the wall and take a ticket
