The state assessment system in Texas is a comprehensive testing programfor public school students designed to measure to what extent a student has learned, understood, and is able to apply the important concepts and skills expected ateach tested grade level. State assessments provide valuable feedback to students, parents, and schools about student progress from grade to grade.
State assessments are directly linked to the state-mandated curriculum for Texas public school students known as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum. Essential knowledge and skills are taught at each grade and build upon the material learned in previous grades. By developing the academic skills specified in the TEKS, students can build a strong foundation for future success.
