Denton ISD Announces Compensation Increase for Teachers and Staff

Denton Independent School District is increasing compensation for all employees, effective with March paychecks. Teachers will receive a $750 increase, representing more than a 1% adjustment, and staff members will receive a 1% increase on the midpoint of their current pay grade. Both adjustments will be delivered as a lump sum in March and are permanent increases to salary. Any future raises will be in addition to this new amount.

The decision follows a district-wide Prop A survey in which teachers and staff shared their priorities. That feedback was reviewed with the Board of Trustees, who supported moving forward with an immediate increase.

As the district continues its budget work in the coming months, staff compensation will remain a top priority. District leaders anticipate bringing a compensation increase recommendation to the Board later this semester that would address teacher and staff pay for the 2026–27 school year.

“The passage of Prop A allows us to invest in our people and the impact they have on students every day,” said Dr. Susannah Holbert O’Bara, Denton ISD Superintendent. “This is the beginning of a larger compensation strategy, and our teachers and staff will continue to be at the center of that work.”

“As we continue our budget work this spring, we are committed to building a long-term compensation plan that reflects the value our employees bring to Denton ISD students and families,” said Dr. Jeremy Thompson, Deputy Superintendent.

In November 2025, Denton ISD voters approved a Tax Ratification Election (TRE), known as Proposition A. Strengthening support for teachers and staff was among the district’s key commitments to voters. This compensation increase is a direct result of that community investment and reflects the district’s commitment to following through on the promises made to voters and employees alike.
