Library Journal has named Ryan High School librarian Colleen Graves as a winner of its Movers & Shakers award for innovation, placing her alongside a select few educators across the U.S. to win the award.

Mrs. Graves received her award for the innovative ways she uses the Ryan library to instruct students, such as incorporating technology into lessons. The publication also cited Mrs. Graves’ use of makerspaces – areas where students can collaborate on projects through shared ideas and building materials – as a testament to her innovative leadership.

Only 54 recipients were named for Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers awards, with just eight selected to win the award for innovation. The award follows a previous accolade from a library publication for Mrs. Graves, as she was named a finalist for School Library Journal’s 2014 School Librarian of the Year Award.

Mrs. Graves is active on social media, where she can be followed on Twitter as @gravescolleen (and @ryan_library for her school’s library) and on Instagram as @makerteacherlibrarian. She is currently working on two books regarding her use of makerspaces and technology in education.
