GOAL Cup middle school soccer tournament set for May 14

Denton Independent School District’s GOAL – Guys/Girls Operating As Leaders – student enrichment program will host its sixth annual season-ending soccer tournament on Saturday, May 14, with games scheduled to take place at Calhoun Middle School and Denton High School.

The GOAL Cup soccer tournament features club teams from six of Denton ISD’s middle schools – Calhoun, Crownover, Harpool, Myers, Navo and Strickland – as well as students from Sanger Middle School and Lewisville ISD’s DeLay Middle School. Additionally, an elementary game will be played prior to semifinal games this year. Students on each club are part of the district GOAL program, aimed at developing leadership skills in and out of the classroom through academic exercises, teamwork activities and soccer.

The winning boys and girls clubs will each get to keep the prestigious GOAL Cups on their campuses throughout the 2016-17 school year. The girls’ championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the boys’ championship slated to follow at 3 p.m., each at Denton High School. A full schedule can be seen below.
