Crownover, McMath team places 15th at global Destination Imagination competition

The Pink Fluffy Unicorns, a combined sixth-grade team from Crownover and McMath middle schools, recently competed in the global Destination Imagination tournament, placing 15th out of 87 teams in their age group’s improvisation category.

Destination Imagination pits teams against one another in a battle to invent creative solutions for complex challenges in a variety of fields. Crownover students Ethan Jones, Sebastian Bourbon and Siddhartha Shah joined forces with McMath student Kason Chesky for the global competition in Knoxville, Tenn., following their first-place finish at regional meet and second-place finish at the state meet. The global meet is the highest possible contest a Destination Imagination team can qualify for.

During the competition, which lasted from May 24 to May 29, the students performed a four-minute improvisational presentation within a confined space. In their presentation, the combined Crownover and McMath team had to show how characters work together to address a news flash.

The team was paired with a Guatemalan group as a buddy team for the trip, where they exchanged gifts and learned about cultural differences as a result of the educational tournament.
