Fifth grade transition meetings hosted on Feb. 20

Denton ISD will hold its annual fifth grade transition meetings at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at each of the district’s seven middle schools. Students who will attend the district’s eighth middle school, Rodriguez, should plan to attend a meeting at Navo Middle.

Each meeting will feature an information session geared for parents and students to learn about their feeder middle school and what it will offer. Those in attendance will be able to meet the principal, counselors and teachers, learn about elective choices, get information on athletic teams and extra-curricular clubs and get tips on how to make a smooth transition from elementary to middle school.

“Elementary school and middle school are very different.  Our middle school counselors and administrators want to help make that transition as smooth as possible so students can focus on being successful,” said Rene Shelton, elementary counseling coordinator. “This is a great time for parents to meet the people who will be involved with their children the next three years and get any questions they have answered.”

Parents and students for the new Rodriguez Middle School, which will open in the fall in the Town of Oak Point, will be able to meet Principal Renee Koontz during the transition meeting in the cafeteria at Navo Middle School.

To check which middle school your elementary student will feed into, please visit and type in the address of residency and current grade level.
