District to host Special Olympics meet April 1 at Carrico Athletic Complex

Denton ISD’s special education department will host the district’s Special Olympics on Saturday, April 1, at the Bill Carrico Athletic Complex, located next to Braswell High School, 26750 E. University Drive in Little Elm, at 9:30 a.m.

The event will feature students in special education programs at secondary campuses from across the district taking part in athletic competitions. Denton ISD’s goal is to fall in line with the Special Olympics mission of developing physical fitness in students with disabilities to allow them to demonstrate courage, experience joy and share their gifts and skills with other athletes like them, their families and the community.

An opening ceremony will kick off the event, with athletic competitions set for a 10 a.m. start time. The event is open to most students with disabilities, either intellectual or physical in nature, and has replaced the district’s annual Partner P.E. Field Day.
