Incumbents Alexander, Martinez re-elected to school board

Dr. Jim Alexander and Ms. Dorothy Martinez, the incumbents for Place 6 and Place 7, held off challengers to retain their seats on the Denton ISD Board of Trustees on Saturday night.
With all 55 precincts reporting, Dr. Alexander earned approximately 63 percent of the vote to defeat challenger Alfredo Sanchez and keep his Place 6 seat on the board. In the election for Place 7, Ms. Martinez earned approximately 49 percent of the vote to defeat challengers Justin Bell and Sam Ortiz. 
Dr. Alexander has served the Denton ISD community as a trustee since 1993 and has twice been named Board President and Board Secretary by his peers. A graduate of Texas A&M University - Commerce, Dr. Alexander is a former member of the Denton City Council and currently works as a professor emeritus of government for Texas Woman's University.
"I'm very grateful to have the support of the community. We have an excellent board and an excellent school administration structure in place, so I'm just thrilled to continue to be a part of that," said Dr. Alexander. 
Ms. Martinez has served the Denton ISD community as a trustee since 2014 and is currently the Board Secretary. A graduate of Texas Woman's University, Ms. Martinez is a retired educator with experience in both Denton ISD and Dallas ISD. She is a local business owner and real estate agent.
"It's a great feeling to know that we've been honored as the school board of the year [by the Texas Computer Education Association] and that the community wants us to continue our work together," Ms. Martinez said. "We have citizens that are in touch with their community, so I'm grateful to know that they believe in us and the work we're doing for the teachers and students of Denton ISD."
