District Represented by 24 Students at Texas Boys State

Students from three of Denton ISD’s comprehensive high schools – including seven from Denton, nine from Guyer and eight from Ryan – represented the district in the recent Texas Boys State, which teaches students government structures through example.

The Texas Boys State program, run by the American Legion, teaches select students about local, regional and state government. Each participating student serves a role in a mock government, with the entire group creating laws and guidelines that govern the program. Students also meet with elected Texas officials as part of the experience.

Boys State has been an American Legion program since 1935, with thousands of Texas high school students having been involved in the program since then. This year’s program was held from June 11 to 16 at the University of Texas at Austin for male high school students who will be seniors for the 2017-18 school year.
