Jackie deMontmollin Named District’s Director of Fine Arts

   Jackie deMontmollin, associate director of theatre education for the University of Houston, has been named the district’s new director of fine arts. Ms. deMontmollin will step into the role vacated by David McCullar, who retired in June after more than 40 years in education.

   “We’re excited to have Ms. deMontmollin joining our administrative team,” said Susannah O’Bara, area superintendent for academic programs. She brings a variety of experience from the high school and collegiate levels and is excited to work in a district that embraces fine arts education and a community that is committed to supporting the arts.”

   Ms. deMontmollin brings more than 25 years of experience as a director at the campus or departmental level - both in public education and in post secondary education. She has been the associate director of theatre education in the University of Houston’s School of Theatre and Dance for the past 10 years.

   During her tenure, the university has increased enrollment while the school has produced eight full-scale dramatic productions each year and continued to grow the Houston Shakespeare Festival within the greater metropolitan area. She served on the University of Houston Faculty Senate, the Center for Educational Development of Fine Arts Training Cadre and was the 2012 recipient of the Ross M. Lence Award for Excellence in Teaching from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

   Ms. deMontmollin brings 15 years of experience in public education and has directed more than 60 productions- including Tommy Tune Award winning musicals and four state-qualifying One Act Plays. Ms. deMontmollin also serves as a certified UIL One Act Play adjudicator.

   A graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in theatre and English, Ms. deMontmollin also holds master’s in educational administration and educational leadership from Concordia University.
