Mary Brown Named New Band Director at Ryan High School

Mary Brown, assistant director of bands at Ryan High School, has been named the new director of bands at Ryan High. Mrs. Brown will be taking over for Eddy Russell, who was recently named the district’s assistant director of fine arts.

Mrs. Brown brings nine years of experience in working with high school bands - all of them at Ryan High. She began her career as a student teacher under Mr. Russell’s tutelage and eventually moved up from the second assistant position to the assistant director, building strong relationships with students and their families along the way.

“I love the students and the parents here. They’ve always been there for me and to get to continue to work with them in this next step in my career is amazing,” Mrs. Brown said. “Ryan has dream kids, dream parents and a dream administrative team, so this is definitely my dream job.”

The Ryan Raider Band has earned numerous accolades during Mrs. Brown’s tenure, including several First Division ratings at UIL marching, solo and ensemble competitions and concert competitions. Her goal moving forward is to continue to grow the program by increasing enrollment at the high school level, establishing closer connections with the middle school feeders and leading the marching band to a UIL state championship.

Mrs. Brown is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in music education. She and her family reside in Denton.

“We could not have found a better candidate to continue the successful tradition of the Ryan Raider Band,” said Vernon Reeves, the school principal. “I’m proud to see that a teacher that started her career here will get to carry on culture and pride we instill in all of our students at the Home of Champions.”
