Repeat champ from Calhoun Middle advances in Spelling Bee

For the second consecutive year, Alyssa Trasporto from Calhoun Middle School won the district’s Annual Spelling Bee and will advance to the Denton County Spelling Bee hosted by Lewisville ISD at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Bolin Administrative Center.

Alyssa Trasporto

Alyssa won after the 24 competitors completed 15 rounds by successfully spelling ‘omnipotent’ a word that is defined as “one who has unlimited power or authority.”  If she wins the County Bee, Alyssa will qualify for the regional competition in Dallas. The winner of that competition advances to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

Eighth grader Finley Haskell, also of Calhoun Middle, finished a close second and will serve as the district’s runner-up.
