    Spanish Level 1
    The beginning level of Spanish is a very exciting level. By the end of the first day, the students are speaking in Spanish, learning how to greet each other and talking about where they are from. The students learn for the first time not only about another language but also about other cultures. Spanish is spoken in over 20 countries on 4 continents and each country has a somewhat different culture. The year will be spent travelling throughout the world's major Spanish countries.
    Spanish Level 2
    The students' second year of Spanish is a continuation of the first, emphasizing a greater dexterity in the language, such as speaking about events in the past.  The students spend more time adding vocabulary to their repetoire while learning to manipulate the language more in order to converse with other speakers of the language. Whereas, in Level 1 the students travelled throughout Spanish speaking countries, in this course, the students will travel to the same countries but focus on particular cities.
    Spanish Level 2 Pre-AP
    In addition to what is taught in Level 2, the Pre-AP course develops a deeper understanding of the language and cultures helping the students to prepare for the AP course if they so choose to take that class. Students will be expected to complete projects outside of the classroom. The students take more responsibility for their own learning, while still receiving guidance from the teacher in the classroom.
    Spanish Level 3
    The students now learn that there is more than one way to say what we want; changing the tone alone can make a difference! Vocabulary and grammar building continue, but now the nuances of the language are beginning to become more evident to the students in this course. Students spend more time speaking, reading and writing than they did before. The class is taught mostly in Spanish as students continue to better their "ear" for the language. In this course, the students travel to different Spanish speaking regions to better their understanding of the similarities and differences in the cultures.
    Spanish Level 3 Pre-AP
    The depth of understanding is emphasized as students continue to amass the vocabulary and grammar that is needed to converse in a language. These are learned not only in the classroom through textbooks, but also through literature and writing. Also, the students are expected to complete projects outside the classroom as well present them in Spanish in the classroom. Again, the class is taught mostly in Spanish and the students are expected to respond in the language as well.
    Spanish Level 4
    Spanish 4 is a language class in which the students spend their time perfecting the vocabulary and grammar that they have learned in the last three years. The learning of the nuances of the language continues as the students read authentic materials including but not limited to magazine and newspaper articles, works of literature and songs.
    Spanish Level 4 AP Language and Culture
    The students take this college level course with the understanding that they will take the AP exam at the end of the year, knowing that depending on their score, they may obtain university credits while still on the high school campus. The students understand that they are perfecting all that they have learned in the last three years. This is achieved in a variety of ways. The students are expected to complete outside projects which will include but may not be limited to watching Spanish television, researching and reading authentic newspaper and/or magazine articles, and presenting their work orally to the class.
    Spanish Level 5 AP Literature and Culture
    A college level Spanish and Latin American literature and culture survey course, the students prepare to take the exam at year's end with the intention of earning university credits depending on their score. The topics of study include works from the Medieval Era to contemporary literature. Much time is spent on 20th century works and will include poetry, drama, short story and novels. Students are expected to read outside of the classroom and come to class prepared to discuss the works. Excerpts from movies and/or videos will be shown in order to help the students "picture" the action better. Works of art and music will be used to help convey the meaning of the written works. The teacher guides the discussions, focusing on the topics and themes that the AP exam is likely to cover.
