Denton ISD Director of Counseling Services Wins Statewide Award
Amy Lawrence, Denton ISD’s Director of Counseling Services, was a recipient of The Council of Women School Executives (TCWSE) Bravo Award, which is given to exemplary practitioners, innovative programs and initiatives that promote community and parent involvement. Mrs. Lawrence received the award at the annual TCWSE conference in Austin last month.
Mrs. Lawrence was the Bravo award recipient for ESC Region 11. Last year’s Region 11 recipient was Mansfield ISD Superintendent Dr. Kimberley Cantu.
“I am humbled and honored to be recognized as the Region 11 Bravo recipient,” Mrs. Lawrence said. “I am so grateful to work alongside people who encourage and support me in my leadership endeavors.”
As Denton ISD’s Director of Counseling, Mrs. Lawrence aligns the vision of the counseling department to the Denton ISD mission. She works with the Elementary Counseling Coordinator and the Coordinator of District Social Services so that together, they support district staff, campus counselors and social workers.
Mrs. Lawrence began working in Denton ISD in 2004. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Texas State University and her master’s degree in counseling from the University of North Texas.
This is Mrs. Lawrence’s 32nd year in education, and she has served as the district’s Director of Counseling for the past 11 years.
Under her leadership, at least one Denton ISD campus has received a CREST Award from the Texas School Counselor’s Association (TSCA) each of the last 11 years. Counseling staffs from three campuses (Rodriguez Middle School, McNair Elementary and Sam Houston Elementary) received a CREST Award this year.
