Denton ISD to Host 5th Annual Charity Girls Soccer Scrimmage
For the fifth-straight year, every Denton ISD high school girls soccer team will come together for one day to give back to a good cause.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Braswell, Guyer, Ryan and Denton High School girls soccer teams will play four charity scrimmages, with all proceeds going toward Denton County Friends of the Family (DCFOF). Denton County Friends of the Family provides services to those impacted by abuse and domestic violence while partnering with the community to promote safety, hope, healing, justice and prevention.
“We are excited to be participating in the fifth annual charity soccer scrimmage,” said Mandy Hall, Guyer High Girls Soccer Coach. “This is a great event that connects our schools directly to the community, and it allows our student-athletes to use their talents to make a difference in their community.”
The scrimmages begin at 10 a.m. at Denton High School. Each "friendly" will last between 30–45 minutes, with Denton and Ryan playing Guyer and Braswell, since they are not in each other’s UIL district.
The teams are selling T-shirts leading up to the event, and although there is no fee for admission, donations will be accepted at the gate and throughout the games. You can purchase a T-shirt through the order form.
The charity soccer scrimmages began in 2020, and over the last four years, the teams have combined to raise thousands of dollars for DCFOF.
“We're proud to continue this tradition, and we are thankful to be in a district that supports us and is so community-focused,” Coach Hall said. “It's always fun to get all four high schools together, and this is a great way for our student-athletes to see that they have the ability to help other people through their sport.”
