Trustees Name Salon at the LaGrone Academy for Brenda Buster
The Denton ISD Board of School Trustees announced the official name of the cosmetology salon at the LaGrone Academy – the Brenda Buster Cosmetology Salon at the LaGrone Academy – honoring Brenda Buster, who worked as an educator in Denton ISD for 30 years.
"This is such an honor to be recognized by Denton ISD by having my name at the LaGrone Academy, a school that I love," Ms. Buster said. "My foundation is in Denton ISD, and I loved every minute I spent serving our students. I am speechless, to be honest, surprised – and deeply touched by this gesture."
Ms. Buster began her career in Denton ISD as the cosmetology instructor at Denton High School from 1993-2005. In that span, she was named the Denton High School Teacher of the Year in 2002, and she was also the Denton ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2002.
In 2006, Ms. Buster partnered with Sally Beauty to help open the LaGrone Academy. From 2006 until her retirement in 2022, Ms. Buster served as the cosmetology instructor at the LaGrone Academy.
Over the course of her career that spanned three decades, Ms. Buster trained hundreds of students who went on to become local stylists. Ms. Buster’s students also frequently competed in SkillsUSA contests, winning the state championship on multiple occasions.
Her students won the SkillsUSA District 4 team competition 14 consecutive years until the award was discontinued. In 2005, Ms. Buster’s students won the national competition in women’s hair skills.
"Ms. Buster established a program of excellence through service for her students that has spanned decades," said Barbara Burns, President of the Board of School Trustees. "Not only has she positively impacted families across our community, she has also helped establish and grow business owners and leaders – creating the perfect connection between our schools and the business community."
