Denton ISD Students Connect with Industry Leaders During Manufacturing Day

Denton ISD students took a step closer to their futures on Friday, October 3, during Manufacturing Day at LaGrone Academy. The event, held in partnership with the Denton Economic Development Partnership, connected students with leading employers to explore career pathways in advanced manufacturing and related industries.

Throughout the day, more than 150 middle school students and hundreds of high school students engaged with representatives from companies including Peterbilt, Safran, Tetra Pak, US Aviation, Target, and others. Students experienced hands-on demonstrations, learned about cutting-edge equipment, and saw how principles of applied engineering are put into practice across multiple industries.

“As a district, our work extends beyond graduation as we prepare students for their futures," said Superintendent Susannah Holbert O’Bara. "Career and Technology Education offers meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect classroom learning to real opportunities. Manufacturing Day reflects our focus on creating excellent outcomes for students through the strong partnerships we share with our community and local businesses.”

For students, the experience made classroom learning feel real and relevant. Denton ISD Senior at LaGrone Academy, Anabell Anderson, explained, “Seeing the companies and talking with people who actually work in these jobs showed me what’s possible. It makes me more motivated to work hard now, because I can see where it can take me.”

At the host campus, LaGrone Academy leaders emphasized how important these opportunities are for career exploration. “LaGrone Academy is designed to give students a place where they can explore their interests and develop skills that carry them into their futures,” said Principal Marcus Bourland. “Hosting Manufacturing Day allows our students to see those opportunities come to life and to connect with the local industries that support their growth and success.”

Community partners echoed that same commitment. Jamie Adams, Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Denton Economic Development Partnership, said, “Denton’s success is rooted in the partnerships between our schools, businesses, and community.
Manufacturing Day demonstrates how we can work together to prepare students for the workforce, support local industry, and strengthen our economy.”

Denton ISD’s Career and Technology Education programs, including those at LaGrone Academy, are intentionally designed to introduce students to future-ready opportunities that reinforce academic learning with real-world application. Whether through principles of applied engineering, hands-on training, or direct exposure to industry leaders, the district’s long-term vision is to ensure every graduate leaves prepared to pursue their chosen path with confidence and purpose.
