Ryan High School’s Monesha Allen Named 2024-25 Texas State Coach of the Year by NFHS
Denton ISD is proud to announce that Ryan High School Head Girls Basketball Coach Monesha Allen has been named the 2024-25 Texas State Coach of the Year in Girls Basketball by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). This prestigious recognition honors coaches who have made outstanding contributions to their sport, their athletes, and their school communities.
Coach Allen’s selection comes on the heels of an extraordinary season that saw the Ryan Raiders Girls Basketball Team capture the 5A State Championship, bringing home the program’s first state title in school history. Known for her high-energy coaching style, strategic mind, and ability to connect with her players, Allen has helped shape a program that balances athletic excellence with strong character development.
Since taking the helm of the Raiders, Coach Allen has built one of the most respected programs in the region, fostering an environment where student-athletes excel both academically and athletically. Her teams are known for their discipline, defensive intensity, and selfless teamwork — hallmarks of a program built on shared accountability and mutual respect.
“Coach Allen embodies everything we value at Ryan High School—character, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to her players,” said Principal Vernon Reeves. “Her leadership has not only elevated our basketball program but has inspired pride across our entire campus. This recognition is well-deserved and a reflection of the incredible culture she’s built within her team.”
Under Allen’s guidance, the Raiders have become perennial contenders in district and regional play. Her leadership extends far beyond the court, where she mentors student-athletes to become leaders in the classroom and community.
For Coach Allen, the award represents more than personal achievement. “This honor means so much because it reflects the hard work, dedication, and heart of our players and coaching staff,” Allen said. “I’m grateful to represent Ryan High School and Denton ISD, and I’m incredibly proud of the young women I get to coach every day. This recognition is truly a team accomplishment.”
Denton ISD Athletic Director Joey Florence praised Allen’s continued impact on student-athletes. “Coach Allen is one of the most respected coaches in the state, and this recognition reinforces why,” Florence said. “She’s a teacher, mentor, and role model who brings out the best in her athletes. We’re proud to have her leading one of our programs.”
The Ryan Girls Basketball Team tips off their new season at home on Tuesday, November 11, against Mesquite Horn at 6:00 PM. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the defending state champions as they begin their journey toward another standout season.
