Big Art Day Focuses on Creativity
Campuses across the district celebrated Youth Art Month by participating in Big Art Day, a statewide art initiative by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) with the goal to raise awareness of art education and art as a creative force in communities.
"We have a lot of excitement amongst art teachers, not just for the day but for the entire month, and every campus in the district is involved in projects of varying degrees,” said Stacy Bzdok, Cross Oaks Elementary art teacher.
From a balloon-themed mural entitled “Together We Soar” at Harpool Middle School to Union Park Elementary campus recycling bottles and turning them into chandeliers, the creative ideas were aplenty on district campuses on this day.
Elementary students from across the district have artwork on display at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, located at 400 E. Hickory Street, from March 3 - 26. The event is free to the public and is sponsored by the Greater Denton Arts Council.
From March 4 - 19, secondary campuses will have student artwork on display at the UNT Co-Lab on the square in their second-floor mezzanine area.
“The emphasis and focus are on awareness of the arts, encouragement, art education, and just that inspiration of celebrating arts in the schools – which Denton ISD is such a great community for the arts. But it starts with the teachers and students and then it extends to the community,” said Ms. Bzdok.
