Dr. Calvo-Montes named principal of Ginnings Elementary
Dr. Claudia Calvo-Montes, assistant principal of Ginnings Elementary, has been elevated to lead the campus for the 2021-2022 school year. Dr. Calvo-Montes replaces Cornelius Anderson who recently earned a doctoral fellowship as the recipient of the North Texas Center for Inquiry in Teacher Education (NCITE) Endowed Doctoral Fellowship Award, allowing him to attend school full time.
“Dr. Calvo-Montes has served our Ginnings students, staff and community for the past three years and we are excited to see her continue to do so as the principal of Ginnings Elementary,” said Dr. Gwen Perkins, area superintendent of academic programs. “She is a thoughtful leader who believes in collaboration and strives to build a culture of learning for everyone.”
Dr. Calvo-Montes’ commitment to student learning and her display of exceptional leadership recently earned her the title of the 2020 Region 11 Education Service Center Assistant Principal of the Year, awarded by TEPSA.
“I immigrated to the United States from Bolivia almost 20 years ago. In 2016, I earned my citizenship and the opportunity I have had, as well as my background, to work at diverse, Title I schools has given me a better understanding of our students’ and families’ needs, as well as the entire campus community. We have worked very hard (at Ginnings) to understand and see the value of culture and what each individual brings to the table. We have laid the foundation for what we are now - a big family that cares for and loves each other,” said Dr. Claudia Calvo-Montes.
Previously, Dr. Calvo-Montes spent 13 years working as a teacher, instructional coach, academic specialist and administrator in Irving ISD. She joined Denton ISD in 2015 as an Assistant Principal at Borman Elementary, a position she held for three years. While at Borman, she assisted in the efforts for the school to become an authorized International Baccalaureate campus, a very rigorous process.
“ I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to continue Ginnings’ legacy and I look forward to working alongside the phenomenal faculty at Ginnings,” said Dr. Calvo-Montes. “Together we will strive for excellence, equitable education and innovation for all our Jaguars scholars. I am also delighted to continue working with our parents, guardians and community, and very proud to be the Jaguar’s Principal!”
Dr. Calvo-Montes earned a bachelor’s degree from the Universidad Mayor de San Andres in 1998 and a master’s degree in educational leadership also from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2013. She completed the doctoral program at Dallas Baptist University in 2020.
