Denton ISD has partnered with the city of Aubrey and Providence Village to provide a student resource officer (SRO) for two elementary schools in the Braswell zone. Each student resource officer will split time between Sandbrock Ranch Elementary School and Providence Elementary School as Denton ISD continues to bolster its school security plan. 

“We are thankful for our growing partnerships with all Denton ISD communities,” said Dr. Jeff Russell, area superintendent for the Braswell zone. “This community-funded priority will benefit not only our students and staff but also the communities of Aubrey and Providence. The support of a Student Resource Officer at Sandbrock Ranch Elementary School and Providence Elementary School will be valuable to the campuses and nearby residents.”

The cities of Aubrey and Providence Village are providing the funding for the student resource officer. The student resource officer, Velvet Brown, is already serving at both Sandbrock Ranch Elementary and Providence Elementary. 

With the addition of Officer Brown, Denton ISD now has student resource officers at five elementary schools district-wide (Savannah Elementary, Paloma Creek Elementary, Bell Elementary, Sandbrock Ranch Elementary and Providence Elementary). Funding for Savannah Elementary’s SRO is provided by the fresh water district, while funding for Paloma Creek Elementary and Bell Elementary is provided by the Little Elm Police Department. 

As Denton ISD continues the growing trend of strengthening school security, it is these partnerships with local municipalities within the community that make initiatives like additional SROs possible. All SROs at Denton ISD elementary schools are funded locally through community partnerships.
