District reopens seven damaged campuses this week, two campuses go all virtual

Following an extensive assessment of damages to the district’s 43 campuses and the delayed opening of nine schools on Monday, Feb. 22, Adkins Elementary, Hodge Elementary and Strickland Middle School will reopen to all students on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Six campuses will require a longer time frame for repair; one facility, Harpool Middle School, will be closed for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

The staff at Nelson Elementary School and Harpool Middle School, will begin providing virtual instruction to all students on Thursday, Feb. 25. Students will return to Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearning at Nelson Elementary on Tuesday, March 16. Harpool Middle School students will also return to Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearning on Tuesday, March 16, additional details are forthcoming.

Borman Elementary will reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 24 for both Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearners for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first, second and third grades. Borman students in the fourth and fifth grades will attend virtually and return to campus on Tuesday, March 16. Denton ISD is on Spring Break from March 8 - March 12. Monday, March 15 is a Staff Development Day/Student Holiday.

Houston Elementary reopens on Wednesday, Feb. 24 for both Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearners in grades second, third, fourth and fifth grades. All students in kindergarten and first grades will attend virtually and return to campus on Tuesday, March 16. Denton ISD is on Spring Break from March 8 - March 12. Monday, March 15 is a Staff Development Day/Student Holiday.

Union Park Elementary reopens Wednesday, Feb. 24 for both Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearners, except for the second grade. All second grade students will attend virtually until Tuesday, March 16. Denton ISD is on Spring Break from March 8 - March 12. Monday, March 15 is a Staff Development Day/Student Holiday.

Ann Windle School for Young Children will reopen on Thursday, Feb. 25 for Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearners. Students will be split between undamaged classrooms at Ann Windle and available classrooms at Alexander Elementary, a campus in the same neighborhood. Teachers will contact parents and communicate those arrangements on an individual basis.

Please be advised that all Denton Independent School District campuses, facilities, and buildings are closed for Spring Break Monday, March 8 through Friday, March 12. Faculty and staff will return to work on Monday, March 15 for professional development. Students in grades pre-k through 12 return for Face-to-Face instruction or ConnectedLearning on Tuesday, March 16. Please make note of the following:

Re-open for Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearners on Wednesday, Feb. 24

Grades 4 - 5
Re-open to all students for virtual learning beginning Wednesday, Feb. 24 through Friday, March 5. Campus reopens for Face-to-Face learning after Spring Break on Tuesday, March 16.

 

Houston Elementary
Kindergarten and First Grades
Re-open to all students for virtual learning beginning Wednesday, Feb. 24. Campus reopens for Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearning after Spring Break on Tuesday, March 16.

Grades 2 - 5 Only
Re-open for Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearners on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

 

Nelson Elementary
Re-open to all students for virtual learning beginning Thursday, Feb. 25 through Friday, March 5. Campus reopens for Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearning after Spring Break on Tuesday, March 16.

 

Union Park Elementary
Grade 2 Only
Except for second grade, the campus will re-open to all students for Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearning on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Second grade students will attend school virtually on Wednesday, Feb. 24 through Friday, March 5.

 

Ann Windle SYC
Re-open for Face-to-Face and ConnectedLearners on Thursday, Feb. 25.

 

Harpool Middle School (facility closed for the remainder of 2020-2021 school year)
Open to all students for virtual learning beginning Thursday, Feb. 25 through Friday, March 5.

Beginning Tuesday, March 16 the plan for Harpool Middle students and faculty will include the following changes:
