Student plant artwork to be recognized on March 24
Artwork from four Denton ISD elementary schools will be recognized on Tuesday, March 24, as part of the Texas Native Plant Art Exhibition, with student pieces displayed at several local locations for months.
The Texas Native Plant Art Exhibit is a project that teaches students the importance and benefits of native plants as well as their place in local heritage. Fourth-grade students from Blanton, McNair, Newton Rayzor and Stephens elementary schools have artwork showcased in the exhibit, which has traveled throughout Denton since November.
An appreciation reception to honor students for their artwork is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. March 24 at the Emily Fowler Central Library, 502 Oakland St. in Denton. The reception will showcase student artwork for families, who can take photos and enjoy refreshments. Certificates of accomplishment will also be awarded to each student who participated in the project.
The students’ artwork has been on display at the following locations: the Denton Senior Center, Blagg-Huey Library (Texas Woman’s University), Eagle Exhibit Hall (University of North Texas) and Denton Public Libraries. After its stay at the central library, the artwork will next be displayed at Denton’s annual Redbud Festival, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at the Denton Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney St.
Sponsors for the exhibit include the Trinity Forks Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas, Elm Fork Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist and Texas Woman's University's College of Arts and Sciences.
