Kristina Shelburne is the Director of the Braswell High School Royals Drill Team. Before the Royals she was the Denton High School Fillies Assistant Director for four years. She has 25 years of dance experience in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Modern, Lyrical, Pointe, Musical Theatre, and Precision Drill Team. Starting at the age of 3, she began dancing at Bingham Dance Studio for 17 years under Joy Swift and Jill Clements. In High School she was a member of the Starz Dance & Drill Team at Midland High School under the direction of Misti Ray. She held a Lieutenant Officer position both her junior and senior years. Her dance education continued in college as she attended Midland College, attaining her Associates Degree of Fine Arts. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education and a minor in Business at Texas Woman’s University. She has currently earned her Masters of Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University, graduating December 2014.
Miss Shelburne’s’ teaching career began at Bingham Dance Center as a primary dance teacher and choreographer, for two years. She has performed and choreographed in many shows such as Dance 208, Up-Close, Dance Makers, and Arts Triangle at TWU. She has also been an active member and performed in many shows for Midland Community Theatre including their annual Summer Mummers, and Producers the musical. This past year she choreographed the opening of Rock of Ages: High School Addition for the McKinney Boyd Theater Department. In 2011 she completed her student teaching assignment at Denton High School, teaching all levels of dance, assisting with the Fillies, and choreographing for the Follies spring show. After her student teaching, a position opened up at Denton High School for another dance teacher and an Assistant Director to the Fillies, an opportunity she could not pass up. She gladly accepted the position as a dance teacher co-teaching all levels of dance with Mrs. Burgess, as well as the Assistant Director of the Fillies Drill Team. When she is not teaching or dancing she is an active member and fitness instructor at Twisted Bodies Studio and the Denia Rec Center, where she teaches Pound, Pilates, Aerial Silks, Lyra Hoop, and Total Body Barre classes. She recently has been named the Director for the Drill Team and dance department at Braswell High School for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.
Her honors and awards include graduating Suma Cum Laude at TWU, Deans and Presidents List, Continuing Education Philanthropy and Community scholarships, Vice President of Student Government Association in College locally as well as regionally, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, National Honors Society, and Who’s Who among American Students.
