Are ATC classes continuing this year?
Whether you are a ConnectedLearner or an in-person learner, ATC courses are still happening. Your teachers will be reaching out to you on Wednesday, August 26th with details of your course. Some ATC courses are “hands-on,” meaning if you are a ConnectedLearner, you may have opportunities to come to the ATC campus to complete labs, skills, required hours, etc.
-
What time do classes begin for the morning and afternoon sessions at the ATC?
- Morning session (A1/2 and B1/2): 8:25am-11:00am
- Afternoon session (A3/4 and B3/4): 12:25pm-2:45pm
-
What does “ATC Academic Dismissal” on my schedule mean?
This is on the schedule to offset your ATC course. You will report to your home campus at this scheduled time and be given further direction for room location and expectations.
-
I’m planning to be an in-person learner beginning on September 8th. Where do I go?
The morning session begins at 8:25am and the afternoon session begins at 12:25pm. Shuttle buses are available from the home campuses to the ATC. Departure times and locations for pickup are designated by the home campus here: http://bit.ly/atcinfo-fall2020

If I chose the ConnectedLearning platform, can I still take ATC classes?
Yes! We recognize that some of our parents and students wish to enroll in the ConnectedLearning program but also want opportunities for students to engage in course experiences that are typically face-to-face, such as Culinary, Welding, Health Science or Cosmetology. In response to these interests, Denton ISD has expanded its course list to include courses that offer these hands-on experiences for students, some required and some optional. Your ATC teacher will be connecting with you on August 26th to give you more details about your specific course. For more information regarding the “hands-on” courses for ConnectedLearners, click here to visit the Denton ISD ConnectedLearning program information webpage.
-
How often does a ConnectedLearning student have to attend their “hands-on” class at the ATC?
The frequency of hands-on class experiences for ConnectedLearners varies between each course. The ATC is continuing to explore options to provide the most versatility and flexibility to our students. ATC teachers will communicate with their students and families more information for their specific course at the beginning of the year.
-
I chose ConnectedLearning and am in one of the “hands-on” classes at the ATC. Do I need to sign a separate commitment form for that?
The ATC is working closely with each of the high schools to identify their students who have selected ConnectedLearning. At this time, there are no additional forms for you to fill out. ATC teachers will be reaching out to their students at the beginning of the year. If you have questions regarding hands-on times, please contact your ATC teacher for information specific to your course.
Transportation and Parking
-
Will there be ATC shuttles from my home campus to/from the ATC?
At this time, ATC shuttles will continue to be provided to/from the home campuses to/from the ATC during their normally scheduled times, once in-person instruction begins on September 8th.
- If you have a morning class at the ATC on A or B days, the ATC shuttle will depart from each home campus. The shuttle will return to home campuses in time for your 3rd block class. Transportation schedules for each home campus can be found here: http://bit.ly/atcinfo-fall2020
- If you have an afternoon class at the ATC on A or B days, you will need to take the first lunch, “A lunch,” then proceed to the shuttle location on your home campus. The ATC shuttle will return to the home campus in time for your 5th block class. Transportation schedules for each home campus can be found here: http://bit.ly/atcinfo-fall2020

I was planning to utilize the ATC shuttle from the home campus; however, I missed the ATC bus. What do I do?
It is important to be at your bus pickup location several minutes before the scheduled departure time. If you are a morning ATC student relying on the ATC shuttle, but you also are a bus rider to the home campus in the mornings, your regular bus will likely not arrive at your home campus in time to catch the ATC shuttle. There are several options if this is the case:
- Have a parent/guardian drop you off at the home campus prior to the ATC shuttle departure time.
- Have a parent/guardian drop you off at the ATC prior to the 8:25am start time. ATC doors open at 7:30am.
- If the two options above are not feasible, you will need to speak with your Academic Counselor to see if you can switch your ATC class to an afternoon section. However, there is very limited availability in the afternoon sections of classes at the ATC.
- Have a parent/guardian drop you off at the home campus prior to the ATC shuttle departure time.
-
If I am a ConnectedLearner and am coming to the ATC for a “hands-on” class, what options do I have for transportation?
As a ConnectedLearner, you are responsible for your transportation if you are enrolled in a “hands-on” class at the ATC. If you are a self-driver and have permission from your parent/guardian, you may drive to the ATC. Also, a parent/guardian can drop you off/pick you up at the ATC. Or, if you need to be at the ATC during one of the normally scheduled times and have a way to get to your home campus, you can utilize the ATC shuttle (beginning September 8).
-
If I am a ConnectedLearner and plan to drive to the ATC for my “hands-on” class but do not have a home campus parking permit, do I need to get a parking permit from the ATC?
If you have a current 2020-2021 parking permit from your home campus, you may use that at the ATC. It will need to be visible at all times while parked at the ATC. If you are driving to the ATC and do not have a home campus parking permit, you will need to contact the ATC front office at (940) 369-4850 to obtain a parking permit.

Will students in Health Science still be going to the hospital this year?
Our district continues to closely monitor the situation with local health authorities to ensure the safety of our students. While the possibility of students going to the hospital during the 2nd semester continues to be evaluated, the Health Science courses will still continue. The Health Science teachers have been intensely collaborating to adjust their scope and sequencing of the course so that regardless of whether hospital rotations can continue, students will still have an exceptional Health Science experience this year.
-
Will students in courses with licenses/certifications still be able to test for them this year?
The district continues to work with the governing boards who oversee the licenses/certifications at the ATC to find ways for students to continue to test for their licenses/certifications. For questions about your specific course and licenses/certifications, please contact the ATC Counselor, Susan Reyes at (940) 369-4838 or sreyes@dentonisd.org, or contact your ATC teacher.
