About Gonzalez School for Young Children
The Gonzalez School for Young Children was built in 2010 and is one of two schools dedicated to early childhood education in Denton ISD. The school is named after Popo and Lupe Gonzalez, two longtime advocates for public education and community service in the Denton area.
The school was designed as a community within the community and features aspects of a typical town (post office, theatre, library, etc.) that are woven into the classroom environment. The building was named a finalist in Topping Out 2010, an honor by the local building industry for architecture, construction and positive impact on the community.
Gonzalez is known for its friendly staff, dedicated teachers and hard-working volunteer groups. The school offers early childhood programs to 3- and 4-year-olds, with its educators understanding the value of a strong educational foundation.
Students at Gonzalez can enroll in the district’s tuition-based Pre-School Academy, or qualify for a state-funded, pre-kindergarten program. The school also offers a pre-school program for children with disabilities.
Gonzalez students learn about the functions within a community and the importance of becoming a valuable member of that community. This task is accomplished through a curriculum that teaches students language development, math skills, music, art and physical education while incorporating the school’s unique structure.
