HS Students Selected as TMEA All-State Musicians
Band, Choir, and Orchestra students from all over the state of Texas are auditioning for TMEA All-State using the new format of submitting recorded auditions online and navigating the challenges of taking private lessons virtually rather than in person. Students in high school band and choir are in the midst of the Region-level rounds of auditions. Students in high school orchestras and jazz ensembles have now completed their Region and Area rounds of auditions and the rosters have recently been named for the TMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble and All-State Orchestra.
We are proud to announce there are two Denton ISD students returning to the TMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble and All-State Orchestra.
Matthew Garcia, Denton HS senior, has been named 2nd tenor saxophone in the TMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble 2. This is Matthew's second time to make the All-State Jazz Ensemble. Matthew is a student of Jesse Woolery, Denton HS Lab Band Director, and Emilio Mesa, Denton ISD Saxophone Private Lesson Teacher.
Christian Luevano, Guyer HS junior, has been named 6th chair string bass in the TMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra. This is Christian's third time to make the All-State Orchestra. Christian is a student of Michelle Hanlon and Jeremy Atkins, Guyer HS Orchestra Directors, and Jeff Bradetich, UNT Regents Professor of Double Bass.
Congratulations to these outstanding students and their teachers for this tremendous honor. We are very proud of this accomplishment and all of the hard work and practice it took to prepare for the auditions. Best wishes to the band and choir students that are auditioning in the coming weeks.
