On Saturday, October 15, the UIL Region 2 Marching Band Contest was held at C.H. Collins Stadium in Denton. The lineup included all 5A and 6A bands from districts within Region 2, including Argyle, Denton, Lake Dallas, Lewsiville, and Northwest ISDs.
We are proud to announce that all four Denton ISD marching bands have once again earned UIL 1st Division "Superior" Awards at the Region level. All four Denton ISD bands earned unanimous 1st Division ratings from all three UIL judges at the Region contest. All four bands will advance to the UIL Area level contests for their respective classes. At Area, bands perform in a prelims-finals format contest. At the end of prelims, the top 10 bands receive finalist awards and then perform in a finals round of competition. At the end of the 6A finals, the bands that advance to the 6A State contest are announced. UIL will not hold a 5A State Contest in 2022, but will do so in November of 2023. So, 5A bands cannot advance beyond Area this season.
Denton HS and Ryan HS bands will perform in the UIL 5A Area B Contest, on Saturday, October 22 at McKinney ISD Stadium. Ryan performs in prelims at 11:15am and Denton performs at 2:30pm. The top 10 bands will perform in finals beginning at 6:45pm.
Braswell and Guyer HS bands will perform in the UIL 6A Area C Contest, on Saturday, October 29 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. Guyer performs in prelims at 2:45pm and Braswell performs at 3:00pm. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased by cash or card at the stadium or in advance on the Hometown Fan App. Ages 7 & up must have a ticket. Click here for the complete schedule. The top 10 bands will perform in finals beginning at 7:30pm. At the conclusion of finals, the top 6 bands will be announced as advancing to the 6A State Contest.
