Since 2016, Cross Oaks has been using the Playworks curriculum to use the power of play to bring out the best in every kid. More than 15 staff at Cross Oaks have been trained in how to implement play-based activities that address students' social and emotional needs while explicitly teaching conflict resolution skills to help students solve problems on the playground on their own before requiring teacher intervention.
Schools that use Playworks report:
- A decrease in bullying
- An improvement in overall school climate
- A reduction in disciplinary incidents
- More participation in academics
- An increase in students’ abilities to focus on class activities
