About Our School
Cross Oaks Elementary was built in 2010 and is one of the newer elementary schools in Denton ISD. The school is named after the neighborhood in which it resides and pays homage to the oak trees that dot its landscape.
Cross Oaks is known for its commitment to building relationships between its teachers, staff and school families. The school frequently hosts evening events for our families and the community. Because we understand that schools cannot do it alone, we value our strong partnerships with nearby businesses, community organizations, and volunteers who enhance teaching and learning at our school. To learn how you can get involved and make a real difference for our school, please contact the school office at (972) 347-7100 or reach out to our PTA on their Facebook page. Our PTA is an essential partner in promoting safety and learning support for our students and families. Many of our families appreciate the announcements and school celebrations shared on our campus Facebook page.
We count on the support of our campus volunteers to enrich the culture of our school and provide deeper learning opportunities for our children. Parents and community members interested in volunteering at Cross Oaks must complete the volunteer application and background check. Please note that the district volunteer application, which includes a background check, must be completed at least 2 weeks in advance of volunteering. We are very proud of our beautiful campus, which was constructed with sustainability in mind. Our school's many "green" features include rain water collection, geothermal heating and cooling, and solar panels that heat our water. Our extensive windows provide natural lighting throughout our school, resulting in substantial energy savings as well as a very pleasant and relaxing learning environment for our students and staff.
Our teachers work frequently in collaborative groups to improve teaching and learning. Our staff operate as a professional learning community, meaning that student learning, rather than teaching, is our central focus. We have built a collaborative culture through which analyze assessment results to improve teaching and learning. By establishing a systematic intervention process, we can promise our families that if their children need extra support in their learning, they will receive it in a timely manner.
We understand that social and emotional learning is foundational to academic learning. To that end, we have incorporated research-based programs for all students that are designed to address their social and emotional learning needs. Our implementation of Capturing Kids' Hearts provides us with universal tools and systems to deepen our relationships with students and with one another, provide a safe and secure learning environment campus-wide, and empower children to establish collaborative agreements of acceptable behavior and successfully manage conflicts.Through implementation of the Playworks program, we are intentional about providing students with learning opportunities through promoting safe and healthy play. Our adult and student play coaches directly teach conflict resolution skills to students through specially designed play activities. At Cross Oaks, even recess is a time for learning! The school features various activities that help students become involved in and out of the classroom. Cross Oaks students have the opportunity to participate in a diverse group of extracurricular activities including choir, fishing, teambuilding, outdoor learning, student council, safety patrol, a dance team, and a coding club. Cross Oaks families also have the opportunity to enroll younger siblings in a pre-kindergarten program, allowing them to develop essential early literacy and numeracy skills while growing into our school’s welcoming environment.
