• Referrals & Testing

    Gifted and Talented students are those who excel consistently or who show the potential to excel in general intellectual ability, specific subject matter aptitude, and creative and productive thinking.These students require educational experiences beyond those normally provided by the regular school program.  
    The middle schools in Denton ISD conduct two testing periods throughout the year, one being in the fall and the other in the spring. The next referral period will occur in the fall of the 2018-2019 school year.  Testing dates and times will be determined in the fall.  The fall referral period is Sept. 24th - Oct. 11th.  Packets may be picked up in the office or from Dr. Dearman in room 166 starting Sept. 24th.  Placement announcements will occur via letter from DISD Office of Advanced Academics AFTER Dec. 10th. Placement will begin with the new semester in January 0f 2019. Students may only be referred once during a 12 month period.  
    TRANSFER G/T STUDENTS [Those that are NEW to the Denton ISD District AND were previously TESTED AND SERVICED BY GIFTED AND TALENTED (G/T) SERVICES IN THEIR PREVIOUS DISTRICT] may need to be re-tested. When registering notify the counselor that your child was previously served in another district, so a Denton ISD Transfer Form can be completed and G/T paperwork can be obtained from the former district.
    Date: Saturday, Sept. 15th
    Place: Testing will be held at the Professional Development Center (PDC)
    This testing is only for TRANSFER G/T students new to the district. Students that are elgible for testing will be notified by the campus EXPO specialist.
    Students that qualify and are placed in EXPO do not have to be retested to continue in the program when they move to another Denton ISD school.
