• Studies have shown that students who are free from the distraction of a smartphone are more engaged as learners and more present in social situations with peers. For this reason, we are asking that students keep phones in their backpacks for the duration of the school day. Phones will continue to be allowed in the building, and students may use them from the time they get to school until the first bell at 7:55am. At that time, or as part-time students arrive and enter the building, phones should be placed in their backpacks to be retrieved at the end of the day.

Should you need to communicate with your child during the school day, you can call the office at 940-369-4850 and we can relay any urgent messages to your child. Likewise, students may use the phone in the front office to call home if need be (again urgent situations only).

For instructional and safety purposes, the district permits students to possess personal mobile telephones. However, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing. Other personal telecommunications devices such as laptops, tablets, smart watches and other smart devices are also not permitted to be used during the instructional day unless permitted via 504.These devices shall not be visible, audible, or used during school hours.

In helping our students learn how to manage their communication devices at school, LaGrone Academy will adhere to the following:

      • 1st Offense
        • Device confiscated; student pick up device at the end of the school day
        • The teacher or administrator makes parent contact.
      • 2nd Offense
        • Detention
        • Device confiscated; parent may not pick up device before the end of the school day
        • Behavior contract to confirm their understanding and future adherence to the policy.
      • 3rd Offense
        • ISS
        • Device confiscated; parent may not pick up device before the end of the school day
        • In-person conference with the administrator, parent, and student
      • 4th Offense and Beyond
        • 3+ days ISS, OSS, or DAEP
        • Device confiscated; parent may not pick up device before the end of the school day
        • In-person conference with the administrator, parent, and student

Confiscated telecommunications devices that are not retrieved by the student or the student’s parents will be disposed of after the notice required by law. [See policy FNCE.]

In limited circumstances and in accordance with law, a student’s personal telecommunications device may be searched by authorized personnel. [See Searches and Policy FNF.]

Any disciplinary action will be in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. The district is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen telecommunications devices.

At LaGrone, we strive to give our students the best education possible. We sincerely believe that this policy will help our students continue a legacy of success. Thank you for your support.
